Wear to Where Blog Tour

Hey, everybody! Thanks for stopping by for the Wear to Where Blog Tour. If you are new to my blog, hello! I'm Kelly and you will typically find me sewing up kids clothes. Mostly for my 5 year old son, hence the name, Handmade Boy. However, occasionally, I will sew something for myself and this was a great excuse to do so! For my theme, I chose tailgating. I really needed some new clothes for fall and this theme fits right into my everyday style.

I knew I wanted, NEEDED a vest. I have been searching for one in stores forever and have not been able to find what I wanted.
So, I took Peek-a-Boo's Cascade Jacket and removed the sleeves, took in the shoulders a tad and reshaped the arm holes a bit and then added knit binding to finish it off. I hid the raw edge of the front with some ribbon I had on hand. LOVE how it turned out! I used some super soft quilted interlock that I found at Joann's.

My next sew was one of Peek-a-Boo's new patterns, the Bristol Button Up. I adore this! I used a heavy weight flannel for the main portion and cotton/lycra knit for the hood and cuff linings. It is cozy warm and comfy. Perfect for windy fall days!

It was REALLY windy while we were shooting. LOL

I needed something to wear under my warm layers. That's where Love Notion's La Bella Donna Tee comes in. Super quick dolman style sleeves. This was a breeze to throw together. And it was great to use as a layer piece. Mine is made from cotton/lycra. I made the short sleeve a touch longer and then hemmed them instead of using the cuff. I need to make about 50 more of these.

The scarf, that I wish I would have taken off for this shot, was made using the tutorial I did for Peek-a-Boo earlier this month.

And that takes us to the pants. I used Patterns for Pirates S.O.S. Pants. And I adore them. They are made from some brush poly spandex from Joanns. The fabric reminds me of what store bought fleece lined leggings are made from. Yeah, I was warm and cozy! Now, I messed up big time and cut my fabric the wrong direction resulting in the most stretch going down my legs instead of around them. But, I still had a good 30% stretch going around my body. So had I cut correctly, you would not have been able to see the pocket outlines so well or the pulled seams. But, they are comfy still and I like them, so I'm keeping them. ;)

These pants have real pockets in the front and back and a faux fly. So, you are NOT wearing leggings. But, they are just as comfy because they have an elastic waist! ;)

And, as much as my sister in law may like to tease me about doing it some day, I did not make the boots. I know, you're shocked. It's okay. They are from Target.

And that wraps up my tailgating look! Thank you so much for stopping by!

  6. Perfection! The pants look awesome on you (I know you were worried about how it would be after the cutting mishap) but they're great. I need to make that scarf for myself...as I have that exact fabric already. Hmm. And your vest is awesome! Okay. Everything is awesome. I bow down to you, sewing goddess!
