When I was invited to join the Not Just a Sunsuit Tour by Call Ajaire, I was super excited for a couple of reasons. First, I like the challenge of sewing trendy clothes that have the RTW look my tween looks for and this pattern looked perfect for that challenge!
And second, I wanted to make this pattern work for fall. And to do that, I envisioned some super cute floral gray corduroy using the pants option of the Paneled Sunsuit paired with a white tee and a pale pink cardigan and some cute brown booties.Yeah, the tween wasn't seeing my vision. What she was seeing was the Pokemon fabric I bought to make her older brother some pajama pants turned into a skirt with a yellow tee shirt and boots. Guess who won the vision challenge? Clearly, it wasn't me.
I was very afraid of this combo. I don't typically sew clothing with novelty fabric and I feared the results would be super tacky, especially for a child her age. I was sure she would hate the results. To my surprise, it actually works great! And she LOVES it!! Score!! I really credit the great simple shape of the skirt Ajaire created to the success of this. I really dig the clean lines this skirt has. And the pockets!
There are two pocket styles, regular and faux piping. I am a sucker for details, so I went with the faux piping. It was super easy to do and I adore the look.
The skirt length is perfect. Just above the knee making it easy to wear and move in and appropriate for school. When it cools down more, we will throw a pair of tights under this and she can wear it all winter.
The pattern covers sizes newborn through size 12. Sizing was perfect for us. My daughter measured exactly for a size 12. So, that's what I made, all the way down to the length of elastic I used. It was perfect. I wouldn't alter a change for the next one. And with as quick as this goes together, there will be loads more!

It fits her perfectly!! I love her style too. I would never be able to pull off a pairing like this, but it totally works. It's really fun to see the older kids using the pattern so thank you so much for being on tour!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this!
ReplyDeleteI really love this outfit! I agree that the Pokemon fabric was tricky but it suits her very well. If I had to choose one look to make it would also be the skirt with top for my almost 11 year old girl!
ReplyDeleteGood job!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out perfect! I love a fun novelty print skirt or top when paired with solids
