Winter Wear Designs Real Deal Jeans

Welcome to my stop on the Winter Wear Designs tour! I am so excited to share my Real Deal Jeans with you today. That's right! I made jeans! For REAL jeans for me! Not for one of my kids!

Pretty sweet, if I do say so myself! I've been making my kids jeans and pants with a zipper fly for a while now, but have always been nervous about tackling a pair for myself. It wasn't the construction part that intimidated me, it was getting the proper fit. And you know what, it was so EASY!!!

I did a test pair of shorts before I cut into my denim, just like the pattern instructions suggest. I had to make a couple of small alterations to fit my shape. As you can see above, I don't curve. I'm pretty rectangle shaped. So, I had to take in the hip/thigh curve.

But I do curve in one place, the badonka donk. Baby's got back.

Ever put on store bought jeans and they fit lovely every where EXCEPT, you have a huge gap in the waist in the middle of your back? It's because the top of the rise doesn't curve in enough to hug your bum. When you are making your own jeans, it's a super easy alteration! Just take in the inseam at the top of the back rise. BAM! Bum hugging jeans!!

I also added an inch to the rise. Yeah, I made some mom jeans. But you know what, my tummy is tucked in and not flowing over my waistband and my booty back is covered. I'm cool with wearing mom jeans.

After I had my alterations down, I cut into my denim and whipped together a pair of perfectly fitting jeans! The construction went together beautifully. I have a great zipper!

And fun details like these studs I found in the button section of Joann's make a great replacement for rivets.

I am super happy with my jeans and have more fabric to make a few more pairs.

But, while I love that I have jeans for me, I couldn't help but jump at the chance to help test out Winter Wear Design's new Sk8 Skinnies!

Seriously. How great are those!

All the same fabulous details as the women's Real Deal Jeans. Real zipper fly (though there is a faux fly and cotton lycra waistband option), front pockets and great back pockets as well. There is no elastic in my pair, but there is an option to add button hole elastic, if you like.

I embroidered some gears on one pocket and made the other back pocket from the same flannel the front pockets are made out of.

I also took some scraps of that same flannel and made patches on the front for some extra detail.
And the rivets, they are brads from the scrapbooking section! Dude, rivets are Joann's are expensive! Those brads were only a couple of dollars and so far, are holding up in the wash great!

Adulting.

I did receive the Real Deal Jeans pattern for my participation on the tour. The Sk8 Skinnies were given to me for testing purposes. However, my opinions on both patterns are my own. :)

  2. Real Deal jeans have been on my to-do list forever now...well, since the pattern released. But the hurdle of making a properly fitting muslin has been holding me up. I think this is my kick in the pants to just do it! Thanks for the inspiration.

    1. Do it! It's honestly really easy and doesn't add much time at all to the sewing process. And the great thing is that once you get an idea of the alteration you need to do, you will have the best fitting pants of your life!

  5. I have this pattern but haven't made them yet. I need to give them a try maybe towards fall. Yours look great and love the inner waistband fabric. It feels so good to make your own jeans!
